What is Read-a-thon? Although the Read-a-thon is a fundraiser, it is an opportunity to get students to improve reading fluency. Students in each grade receive a reading log to keep a record of the amount of minutes they are reading per night. Students collect sponsor donations and win great prizes.

When is Read-a-thon? It begins Monday, January 23, 2012 and ends on Friday February 10, 2012 with the collection of sponsor donations.

Who participates? Everyone participates! From Monday, January 23, 2012 to Monday, January 30, 2012 students ask family and friends to sponsor them with a lump sum for the event or per minute. They return the completed sponsor donation form on Tuesday January 31, 2012. On Friday, February 10, 2012, students and parents will collect donations from sponsors and return them to the PTO mailbox in the main office.

What can parents do to help? You can help your child recruit sponsors, and sponsor your child yourself. You can also help your child complete the reading log. Please help your child remember to return the Read-a-thon sponsor forms on Tuesday January 31, 2012 and to collect and submit donations at the conclusion of the Read-a-thon on Friday, February 10, 2012.

Who are the winners?

Classroom Raffle: Every classroom that gets 100% participation and returns their pledge sponsorship forms by Tuesday, January 31, 2012 will enter a classroom raffle to win an ice-cream party.

Highest Sponsorship: The student with the highest sponsorship amount will get a special prize.

Class Pizza Lunch Party: The classrooms with the most donations will get a pizza party.  One party will be awarded for K-3 and one for 4-5.

All Participants: Log in minutes read and receive a raffle ticket for every hour you read. The more hours you read, the more raffle tickets you will have to enter into the Read-a-thon Participant Raffle Drawing.
